A Word from Pastor Mike:

Before sharing this devotional, I must mention how EXCITED I AM ABOUT how much GOD is coming through in my LIFE and our CHURCH! On July 23rd, we had three people follow through in Water Baptism and had one of our largest crowds this year – many of whom came for the baptism ceremony (and church luncheon). Almost every week, we have improvements with our church facility: revamped outdoor lighting, new church sign, front door ramp, additional sanctuary electrical outlets, new sanctuary door and more! I almost want to sing the song – when I think of HIS GOODNESS. Then this past Sunday our Music Director Tim Eagan walked in with a hand full of church bulletins. Our church admin Crystal recently had surgery and finished up the bulletins while in the hospital. Certainly, that was not expected. However, it does show that many are seeing there is a CAUSE (PURPOSE) – 1 Samuel 17:28. When we catch the CAUSE – we keep moving FORWARD and give our all. Thank you to so many who have stepped UP and allowed GOD to use you!

Devotional –

statements that come to mind for our lives, our families and our CHURCH! Regardless of the past, ONE MOMENT – ONE TOUCH can change our paths to a NEW DESTINY and to begin to see GREATER THINGS! Many of us have gone through some tragedies and heartaches recently or some time in our lives. God would speak to our hearts that HE is still here for us – walking through with us and is for us. Don't hold on to bitterness or believe we are victims, but instead become BETTER and know there is VICTORY on the way as we OBEY HIM!

This past Sunday, we looked at John 11 – Where Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead. Lazarus was a Dead Man come to LIFE – NEW LIFE! Jesus said in John 11:44 – (NIV)

44 The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.”

Jesus knew Lazarus and this passage shows us they were friends. Whether we have been a Christian for years or weeks or not at all, God would have us check our hearts and renew our relationship with HIM – shake off the GRAVE CLOTHES and LIVE for HIS GREATER THINGS for our LIVES. Maybe the Grave clothes we need to shake off are: past hurt, fear, victim mindset, envy, spirit or religion or selfishness. Whatever it may be – God is speaking to us even as I am sharing this devotional to let go of anything that is holding us back and fully GO FORWARD with what GOD has for US!

As we are concluding our Dead Man Walking sermon series this coming Sunday, I am reminded about what the GOSPEL is about – JESUS changing lives of people that are far from GOD, not going to church, angry, unpolished and many other ways – seem like an unlikely person to change. But remember – GOD CAN! Remember – God does not need a cloud to have it RAIN DOWN! Remember – GOD is not Broke and anything HE declares, will come to pass. Remember – it is not about how good we are. IT is about how BIG HE IS!

We are messed up people connecting to a perfect loving God that is transforming our lives and we are proclaiming of what he is doing. – The short version: From MESSED UP to BLESSED UP!

I am reminded of the this story:

Kissing Frogs by Jeanne Mayo

You remember the fairy tale, don’t you? The account was of a handsome prince who had a spell on him by the wicked witch. He was put into the body of an ugly frog and told that he would live forever in this ugly, warted body unless he could get a beautiful princess to kiss him. But alas! The story tells of the lovely princess who felt strangely drawn to the ugly frog one day. Her tender lips touched his warted body and then… WHIZ! BANG! BOOM! The ugly frog was released to become the handsome prince that he had always been on the inside. And what is the job of the CHURCH and us at New Destiny Community Church? TO KISS FROGS, OF COURSE!

All of us have a bit of the “frog” in us. Deep inside, we have all the beautiful character qualities of royalty; but often, no one sees beyond our superficial warts. JESUS was the “”Master – Frog– Kisser.” HE looked at people like Simon and said,”Your name means ‘little pebble’ now… but I see far more than that in you. So we’re changing your name to ‘Peter,’ which means ‘big boulder,’” Frog – Kissing is that ability to “call out the BEST” in those around us with honest words of affirmation and encouragement. Christ called a group of men to be HIS LEADERS who displayed much more of the “frog – nature” than the “handsome prince.” But because HE believed in them and saw beyond what they were to what they could become, HE proved to be not only a “fisher of men” but a “moulder of men.” The challenge to each one of us: Stop praying for Handsome Princes and start kissing people’s warts!

2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.

Titus 3:5 (NIV)

he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,
